Cloud Forest Endemics of Bidoup Núi Bà

The isolated, misty plateaus of Vietnam’s Central Highlands have produced extreme micro-endemism among the region’s insect populations — a cloud-forest counterpart to the Cát Tiên lowlands.

Target fauna: Calopterygidae (highland demoiselles), specialised montane Chlorocyphidae, rare swallowtail butterflies, and endemic highland beetles.

Day 1 — Highland Ascent & Montane Briefing

Transfer up from Da Lat to a premium highland station. Evening lecture on how isolated misty plateaus drove extreme micro-endemism in the region’s insects.

Day 2 — The Ancient Pine & Moss Trails

Trek through high-elevation pine and broadleaf cloud forest, tracking insects specialised for damp moss and lichen micro-habitats. Evening light-trapping at the forest edge for montane moths and beetles.

Day 3 — Bidoup Peak Riparian Stream Trek

A demanding trek following high-altitude mountain torrents — hyper-localised, cold-water-adapted dragonfly and damselfly larvae, and macro-photography of canopy butterflies at mineral seeps.

Day 4 — Highlands Synthesis & Handover

Morning review, insect data logging, and final portfolio image review, then handover toward Da Lat or Cam Ranh Airport (CXR).
