Granite Ridges & Highland Streams of Chiang Mai

Northern Thailand’s granite peaks bring a distinctly Himalayan-influenced insect biome within reach of Chiang Mai — the highest-altitude module in the current line-up.

Target fauna: specialised montane Aeshnidae (hawker dragonflies), Calopterygidae (demoiselles), rare high-altitude Kaiser-i-Hind butterflies, and stag beetles.

Day 1 — Mountain Ascent & Highland Orientation

Transfer from Chiang Mai Airport to a premium mountain lodge in the foothills of Doi Inthanon. Evening briefing on high-elevation safety, mountain weather, and northern Thailand’s Himalayan-influenced insect biomes.

Day 2 — The Misty Cloud Forests of Thailand’s Highest Peak

The moss-covered peat bogs and rhododendron cloud forest at the summit of Doi Inthanon — cold-tolerant montane insects and macro-photography of rare highland butterflies.

Day 3 — Wachirathan Torrent Streams

The granite river channels and waterfalls of Wachirathan — powerful mountain torrent dragonflies, and how their larvae anchor to slick rock faces under extreme currents.

Day 4 — Doi Suthep Ridge Walk & Canopy Insects

Forested ridges of Doi Suthep — hill-topping butterfly behaviour, forest canopy beetles, and seasonal cicada populations, with a private dinner celebrating northern Lanna cuisine.

Day 5 — Montane Synthesis & Handover

Morning review, insect data logging, and final photography checks, then handover at Chiang Mai Station or CNX Airport.
